Senator Jason Atkinson speaks to the Grants Pass Lions Club April 22, 2008  Senator Atkinson enlighten us with a view  not normally seen  in a public servant.  The Senator spoke compassionately on issues concerning what would be considered the less important issues that lobbyist seem to focus most.  To say the least Senator Atkinson made quite an impression.  



April 15,2008 treats us to visit from our Past District Governor, Richard Smith and wife Vicki.  Lions Linda Friebus and Mel Williams are old acquaintances  The Governor gave us an in-depth account of the Oregon Donor and  Eye Bank program.  He explained some of the issues dealing with the financing of a new building and some of the legal cancers with such a large am important project.
 

April 8, 2008 Lion Jeff Clark welcomes Ruthann Page to 
the Grants Pass Lions Club.  Ruthann is a retired helicopter pilot.  As a professional pilot,  Ruthann shuttled  archeologists to hard to reach locations in the Pacific northwest  from the U.S. boarder the British Vancouver.  
Ruthann treated us with the many photographs of the Northwest.  Photos ranged from close ups of wild flowers to the forbidding rough landscape where the archeologists
conducted research for mining. 

This week, Lion Barbara Rolph brings us a very special guest.  We had the pleasure of meeting Michelle Bolas  from "Welcome Home Oregon" A ministry that helps with the Success and happiness after

March 4 2008... Lion Jim Woods welcomes Nancy Rozell, director for the Christian Service Network located on 1431 Seventh Street Grants Pass OR.  (C S N) Christian Service Network is a ministry of the churches within our community as an "extension of the pastor's office." This week Lion President welcomes Dr. Russell J. Leavitt from Cascade Eye Center in Grants Pass.  Dr. Leavitt has spent much time in Liberia conducting eye surgeries for local residents who would other wise not have any treatment.  Many of the patients he treats are blind or near blind and have no other source for medical treatment.  If you would like to earn more about Dr. Leavitt and his contributions to a much needed cause, you can contact him at: 541 476  6636  email rjleavitt@cascade-eyecare.com  

February 12 the Grants Pass Lions Club welcomes Peter Angstadt president of Rogue Community College  Mr. Angstadt told us about the exciting developments the college has to offer.  Associate Degrees can be earned in many life production skills ranging from medical to welding  to preparation classes for further education. December 4, 2007 We are pleased to have Brady Adams of Ever Green Bank visit the Grants  Pass Lions Club.  Brady gave us a very interesting update to the many community projects he is heading up.  Of greatest concern is the development of the River Front Project.  He also told us about other projects including the building of affordable housing and even a community Murder Mystery, fashioned after the train ride mysteries.  Fun hunting for clues to solve.   Brady invites your calls for more information, call 479-3351    

November 27, 2007, Lion John Aegerter welcomes 
Todd
Wels to the Grants Pass Lions Club meeting. Todd is a copy write editor for the Daily Courier.  Mr. Wels writes the column, "Critical Condition"   Todd gave us an interesting overview of "Television".  He took us from its inception in 1927 to the present.  There have been changes in our lives due to television, and lots more to come.  A most interesting presentation.  Todd is also a new dad. 

November 13, 2007 The Grants Pass Lions Club was honored with a visit by Jeffrey Brngasser, a forensic scientist from the Oregon State Police, Central Point Laboratory.  Mr. Borngasser  presented an interesting and eye opening account of the latest technology in solving crimes. The latest computers to sort out the smallest fragments of finger prints and other evidence collected at crime scenes. 

Lion John Aegerter welcomes John McCafferty to the Nov.6, 2007 Grants Pass Lions Club meeting  John is the Chief Deputy Assessor for Josephine County.   Mr. McCafferty gave an in-depth explanation on how the tax rates are decided for both residential and commercial properties.  He invites any one to visit the tax assessment office at 500 NW 6th St. Grants Pass 97526.  You can call the office 474-6250

Lion Linda Friebus welcomes Steve Ware of the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce and loan officer for HMS (Home Mortgage Solutions). Lion's Bill Kehm and Palmer Zottola welcome Sheriff Gil Gilbertson to the April 10 2007  Grants Pass Lions Club meeting.  Sheriff Gilbertson gave an in-depth talk on the financial status of the sheriff's office in Josephine County.
Sheriff Gilbertson also outlines various ways he is planning to save operating money by condensing otherwise spread out operations.   The sheriff says he works for the people of the county and will do what they want him to do.

Angie works for the Oregon Youth Authority> Jann works runs the Josephine County Animal Shelter.  Gail and Keren are members and volunteers for "People Helping Animals"  Angie works with youth offenders training and socializing dogs to be adopted to new homes.

January 23 Meeting of the Grants Pass Lions Club welcomes County Commissioner Dave Toler.  Mr. Toler gave an in-depth explanation on the financial state of Josephine  County. Many critical questions were asked  and talked about.

 Jennifer Pohling, is pictured from LIFT. (Live Independence Family Trust)   for homeless youth in Josephine County).  She has been to a couple of past Lions meetings and was here today to give us an update.  Also, President Lee Fletcher presented a check to her ... part of the proceeds from the money raised at the Christmas party.  LIFT is connected with The Inn Between.
